Goals

The students should recognise the importance of language as the key to many aspects of life. They learn to express themselves in the correct register when addressing people or organisations both orally and in written form. Language is used with a conscious awareness of the correct spelling, grammatical forms and usage. They are confident in the use of the language as a means of communication and they acquire the skills required to pass the new standardised graduation exams (Matura).

Means

Lessons use a variety of means and methods, to teach different aspects of language competence (text comprehension, media, methodology, social and personal competence). Individual independent learning, interdisciplinary subject teaching and project work enhance students’ competence in networking, working in a team, creativity and independence. Visits to the theatre and to readings of literature broaden horizons and give an insight into cultural life in, on and behind the stage.

Teaching staff

Teachers not only provide the knowledge and methodology, but also give the students ample opportunity to practise the acquired skills during lessons. They convey learning strategies and give constructive, feedback within the guidelines of the criteria for assessment of tests, as laid down by the Education Authority. They are aware of all new educational developments and are in a position to prepare students well for any new scholastic challenges.

Students

Students learn to take responsibility for their own studies and are able to apply their acquired skills and knowledge to other aspects of their lives. They learn the importance of critical thinking and of being independent.

Parents

Parents are interested in what goes on at school and trust and respect the contribution made by teachers. They also trust their children to fulfil the tasks that are given to them independently.
