Geography

Lessons in Geography and Economics enable young people to develop the necessary skills required to address personal and social issues in the world today. Our aim is to prepare students for challenges in an environment of global change and enable them to make decisions and take the necessary course of action when required.

The following themes are covered in Geography lessons:

  • Different ways of life in core and periphery regions
  • Economics in different world regions
  • Basics of the physical geography of natural environments, their relationship to each other and their consequences
  • The basics of national economies
  • The basics of business economics
  • Career orientation
  • Land use and regional development

The contents relate to Austria, Europe and the world.

Skills and expertise

An understanding of the interrelationships relevant to our everyday life. Learning to analyse and make use of subject matter and methods such as comparison, evaluation and critical discussion.

Compulsory elective course in geography

In the upper grades, students can attend in depth compulsory elective lessons for one or two years. They have the opportunity to study themes such as Environment, Society and economics in a much more intensive way. Subjects are chosen according to student preferences.

Non-compulsory course in geography

Students are further given the opportunity to attend non-compulsory classes in order to gain a further qualification in economics and financing by taking the business driver’s licence (Unternehmerführerschein) https://www.wko.at/Content.Node/kampagnen/ufs_de/index.html
